Which image format is best?

The best format depends on what the image contains and where you will use it.

Modern web images

Strong compression for photos and graphics, with transparency support. Best default for websites and apps.

Important conversion details

Transparency

PNG and WebP can retain transparency. JPEG fills transparent pixels with the color you select.

Animation

Animated GIF, WebP or AVIF inputs are converted as a single still frame because browser Canvas output is static.

Metadata

Converted files are newly encoded, so EXIF, GPS, camera details and embedded profiles are normally removed.

Upscaling

Maximum dimensions only shrink images. Smaller images are never enlarged, helping avoid unnecessary blur.

Frequently asked questions

Is this image converter private?

Yes. Image decoding and encoding happen locally with your browser's Canvas API. ZeeSharp does not receive the image files.

Can conversion make a file larger?

Yes. PNG output and high-quality settings can increase size. Enable “Keep original when conversion is larger” if reducing size matters more than changing format.

Why does an input format fail?

Input decoding depends on your browser. JPG, PNG and WebP are dependable choices; AVIF, SVG, GIF and BMP support can vary. TIFF and HEIC are not supported here.

Does PNG use the quality slider?

No. Browser PNG encoding is lossless and ignores the quality value, so the control is hidden when PNG is selected.
