Why can I open AVIF but not create AVIF?
Browsers may support AVIF decoding for display but not expose AVIF encoding through Canvas. These are separate capabilities.
What happens to metadata?
Converted output is newly encoded from visible pixels, so original EXIF, GPS and most embedded metadata are not copied.
Does PNG use the quality setting?
No. Browser PNG output is lossless and ignores the quality value.
Can conversion increase file size?
Yes. Format choice, dimensions and quality determine size. Enable “Keep original” if avoiding larger output matters more than changing format.
