Watermarking best practices

For attribution

Use a small mark near an edge at roughly 45–70% opacity so it remains readable without dominating the image.

For proofs

Use a diagonal repeated pattern across the image. Repetition is harder to remove with a simple crop.

For logos

Use a transparent PNG with empty padding trimmed away. Preview it on both light and dark image areas.

Important limitation

A visible watermark discourages casual copying, but it cannot guarantee ownership or prevent removal. Keep original files and independent ownership records. Exporting through canvas also removes EXIF, GPS and most other image metadata.

Open a JPG, PNG or WebP locally.

2

Create mark

Enter text or upload a logo.

Frequently asked questions

Are my source image and logo uploaded?

No. Both are decoded and rendered in your browser. Only a small usage-counter request is sent when you export.

Why does the exported image have no EXIF data?

Canvas creates a new image file and normally omits camera, GPS and other source metadata. This can improve privacy but may remove information you wanted to preserve.

Which output format should I use?

Use PNG for transparency or crisp graphics, JPEG for photographs and smaller files, and WebP for modern web delivery.

Does the watermark prove ownership?

No. It is a visual deterrent and attribution mark, not legal proof or cryptographic certification.

Why does my logo appear small?

Transparent padding around the logo is included in its dimensions. Crop that padding before uploading for more accurate sizing.
