What Is a Mailto Link?
A mailto link is a special kind of hyperlink — starting with mailto: instead of https:// — that opens the visitor's default email application with a new message already addressed, and optionally pre-filled with a subject line and body text. They're commonly used for "Contact Us" buttons, signature links, and QR codes that open straight into a pre-written email.
Tips for Using Mailto Links
- Keep the pre-filled body short — it's meant as a starting template, not the full message
- Test the link yourself before publishing it (use the "Test this link" button above)
- Not every visitor has a desktop email client configured — for important contact forms, also offer a plain email address or a web form as a backup
